Argument of Young Goodman Brown

Dream:
  • When Brown falls asleep, or dreams, starts to become like reality which causes fear for him with his wife, family, and friends.
  • He mentions seeing Goody Cloyse, but his wife didn't pay attention to him like he wasn't there with her which he mention that they known each other since they were children.
  • When he was dreaming, the people that he knows starts to go to the devil.
  • Also, his wife started to with the people going to the devil which turned out to be a meeting with everyone.
  • He started question why he woke up in the woods.
  • When he starts to enter the woods, it was starting to become his reality, but it wasn't reality.
  • His dream causes him not to trust the people that he knows when they going to towards the devil.

Reality:

  • He is describing the woods that it is creepy to most people, trees can also look like witches, and the woods can also have creepy sounds during the nighttime, too. This causes confusion to Brown that if he is in reality.
  • When he says that "there may be a devilish Indian behind every tree" which means that someone can be watching, or stalking him which cause him to have the feeling of fear and anxiety which makes him think it's reality.
  • When he was talking about the staff, it's shows his viewpoint that he is not certain if the staff is Goody Cloyse, or not.
  • I think it was reality because he starts to feel guilty about something.
  • He mentions that the devil was like his father and grandfather and she was also worried about Brown leaving their home.
  • When he wakes up from his dreams, he started to act strange and looks at they more angry which makes him people who they are which makes aren't they seem they are.
